During the trials of police for the murder of George Floyd, the defense teams have relied on training that the Minneapolis Police Department has used for a medical condition called “Excited Delirium.”
They claimed George Floyd was experiencing Excited Delirium and their defense is that they were just doing what they were trained to do.
This is a widely discredited diagnosis that police rely on to escalate situations and harm or kill people in the process.
Because of the dangers associated with it, this training was supposedly banned by Jacob Frey.
An investigation by Andy Mannix at the Minneapolis Star Tribune showed that MPD merely changed the name from “Excited Delirium” to “Severe Agitation with Delirium.”
None of the content of the training was changed, keeping the public at risk.
As seen with the murder of Amir Locke, Jacob Frey continues to mislead the public about what changes he has made to MPD policy.
This is dangerous and the only way for the city to begin to gain trust in the city leadership is for Jacob Frey to resign.
